Power Tween Girls Club Welcomes You
What is Power Tween Girls Club?
An Enrichment Program for Girls Ages 10-13
-
Middle school is an exciting time, girls make their way from childhood to adolescence. They begin their journey of self discovery, finding out who they are, and what their role in life is. While this should be the time when girls are guided in the right direction, encouraged to develop a healthy self image, and pushed to reach their full potential, Middle schoolers are often overlooked. For a variety of reasons Pre-teens become hyperaware of how others perceive them and often lose confidence in themselves. Power Tween Girls Club brings girls together, providing a curriculum incorporating activities that are fun for them and builds confidence. What separates us form other after school clubs is that we incorporate lessons that will give our girls the skills they need to be successful in life personally and professionally.
-
We want to prepare our girls and ensure they have the skills they need to tackle any challenge they may face. We aim to boost their confidence and self esteem while teaching them important skills early on to provide a solid foundation that is essential for success and satisfaction later in life.

Woman are capable of anything! But its undeniable gender disparities are still entrenched in modern society. Between pay inequalities, bias promotion systems, and sexual harassment these injustices will be a part of every young woman's life when she gets older. The worst thing we can do is ignore this problem, we need to tach children from an early age to recognize, refute, and such back against the gender bias and discrimination. PTGC will ensure that our girls have the critical skills they need to succeed despite the entrenched norms. With consistency and hard work girls can do whatever they want!
-
Power Tween Girls Club will not only prepare girls for the world that awaits them but it's also a great place to make friends, take part in our empowering book club, participate in a fun interactive music study, theater class, art class, and get moving with our fun exercise classes. We mix it up with barre class, kickboxing, strength training, yoga, and dance.
-
Health and Nutrition is very important for healthy development and academic performance, we will have a SIMPLE recipe of the day, teaching them a new balanced snack or meal daily. This program creates structure, is engaging for the girls and leads them to discover the empowered young woman they are meant to be.

Power Tween Girls Club Key Skills:
-
Self love and acceptance: Tween girls are extra susceptible to a rapid drop in confidence, which all to common leads to self deprecating behavior, a negative body image, and an overall self-loathing that affects every part of her life (well into adulthood). We don't want any young woman to hate who she is, we encourage self love, acceptance and show her how to embrace who she is!
-
Finding and trusting her voice: Tween girls all too often use "I don't know" as their go to answer, for anything. This usually isn't because they don't know, more often than not this is because they don't trust their thought or opinion. They might look to the more confident person in the room for them to answer first. Studies show young woman are more likely to fall into this pattern than young men, so we just want to encourage girls to trust themselves and speak up!
-
Prepare girls to get what they need: Woman all too often stay quiet or are silenced when they should be advocating for themselves. Historically woman would accept crumbs, reasoning getting something is better than nothing. But, woman don't need to live this way anymore! We want to teach girls at a young age how to effectively advocate for themselves! How to persuade, negotiate, and get what they need in every situation!

Power Tween Girls Club
Research from the American Psychological Association reports that girls become aware of the role physical appearance plays in how they’re perceived, and received, by others as early as age nine, when their self-esteem peaks before plummeting drastically. The distorted reality of magazines and social media can exacerbate typical body image issues to the point of angst in your middle-schooler as eating disorders, low self-esteem, and depression have become the most common mental health problems in girls. Needless to say this does not set your daughter up for the best start in life. Learn more about what you can do to help her navigate through this and how Power Tween Girls Club can be a great resource for your tween!

My Story, My Vision..
-
Hello, my name is Elyssa Pierce. I am the creator of Power Tween Girls Club
-
I have always had a passion for helping others, I studied psychology at Hunter College with plans on becoming a school counselor. This plan got derailed as I got an opportunity to work at Microsoft HQ. I learned a lot in that job, mostly about American office culture, the lack of woman in high power positions was appauling. I met some amazing strong minded woman but it seemed like the exception rather than the rule. It seemed men where making all the important decisions while woman are left to answer the phones. Yes, more woman are going after that promotion at work, demanding pay equality, and not putting up with sexual harassment, but more work needs to be done specifically on equipping young woman with tools for success. This is why I created the Power Tweens Girls Club! This is not just an enrichment program, its a movement, I want to provide opportunities for young woman to discover their full potential!
-
While creating the Power Tween Girls Club curriculum I researched the developmental psychology of pre-adolescence girls. I also looked back at what happened in my life when I was that age. I remember becoming hyperaware of how others perceived me, along with an overall lack of confidence which often happens as a pre-teen. According to Erik Erikson's Stages of Psychosocial Development starting around age 12, girls enter the stage Identity vs. Role Confusion. During this period, they explore possibilities and begin to form their own identity based upon the outcome of their explorations. The problem was I didn't have any support or guidance on how to navigate these feelings. My self esteem continued to suffer, and this effected my academic success, ability to form healthy relationships and my overall ambition.

It wasn’t until I until my mid 20s that I finally realized I wasn’t living up to my full potential, I became a people pleaser and was unable to stand up for myself. Thankfully I was able to turn things around, find my voice and become confident once again. But I don't want any girls to start off in life feeling insecure or incapable. For a variety of reasons there is a drop in self esteem that happens in the early teens and instead of ignoring the problem I want offer girls a safe place to receive gentle guidance all while making lifelong friends, having amazing experiences, and learning new things. Together we can motivate a generation of young woman to become strong minded, bold and confident leaders.
